Lafayette Consolidated Government (LCG)
Project Overview
Royal was contracted to design the extension and connection of both existing dead-end streets of Polly Lane across Isaac Verot Coulee, including roadway reconstruction and widening to its existing section at Verot School Road. Key project features included an approximately 1,080 linear foot asphaltic concrete roadway extension; 930 linear feet of asphaltic concrete roadway reconstruction; and associated traffic circle, subsurface drainage, concrete box culvert in Isaac Verot Coulee Lateral 7, articulating block matting for scour protection, sidewalks, street lighting, and water main extension.
Project Work and Royal Solutions
Royal provided comprehensive design and permitting services for the project, including site condition assessment and surveying, preparation of all preliminary and final plans and bid documents, design calculations, and permitting services, including DHH water permit and USACE Section 404 permit. Royal also performed bid phase services, construction management, and resident inspection to see the project through to construction completion.
Through cooperation with LCG, Royal divided the design and construction of the project into several phases to expedite the building of the road that provided access to a newly built apartment complex. Design included specification of trenchless construction methods for an approximately 1200 linear foot Horizontal Directional Drilled (HDD) segment of water main at the Coulee crossing. During the design process, Royal also made a special point to ensure the recommended sequence of construction would maintain access for all residents and emergency services throughout the duration of construction. Several challenges were faced through the construction phases of the project, which Royal was able to resolve through close coordination with LCG, subconsultants, and the construction contractor.
